Wedding Vow Ideas

Your wedding vow is one of the most important aspects of your wedding. Going with a traditional vow is a popular and classic choice. However, writing your own vows is increasing in popularity. Check out these three awesome ideas to help you get started on your vows.

1. Borrow from your favorite book:

Using a non-traditional vow? Why not borrow from the proven writers? There are endless passages about love and marriage from literature. Perpetual Page Turner.com has a few suggestions on her site.

You could use a complete passage like William Shakespeare’s famous sonnet 18 that reads:

Shall compare thee to a summer’s day? Thou are more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer’s lease hath all too short a date: Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, And often is his gold complexion dimm’d; And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimm’d; But thy eternal summer shall not fade, Not lose possession of that thou owest; Not shall Death brag thou wader’st in his shade, When in eternal lines to thim thou growest; So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Or you could borrow one line, like this one from Cassandra Clare’ The Mortal Instruments:

“There is no pretending, I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I’ll love you then.”

2. Poetic Vows:

“In your eyes, I have found my home.
In your heart, I have found my love.
In your soul, I have found my mate.
With you, I am whole, full, alive.
You make me laugh. You let me cry.
You are my breath, my every heartbeat.
I am yours.
You are mine.
Of this we are certain.
You are lodged in my heart.
The small key is lost.
You must stay there forever.”

and

“You are my inspiration and my soul’s fire.
You are the magic of my days.
You help me laugh, you teach me love.
You provide a safe place for me, unlike I’ve ever known.
You free me to sing my own song.
You are more of an amazement to me, each day I rediscover you.
You are my greatest boon.
I am yours.
You are mine.
Of this we are certain.
You are lodged in my heart.
The small key is lost.
You must stay there forever.”

This vow idea is perfect for the light-hearted couple who love to laugh! Check out these ideas from Perfect Wedding Ideas.com, including switching up traditional wedding vows to make it more personalized and funny:

“I, insert Groom’s name, take you insert Bride’s name, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, to run out and get ice cream for you in the middle of the night, to always put the toilet seat down when I’m done, to pick up my dirty socks everyday, and to occasionally miss a football game when we have something else to do; this I promise you from this day forward until death do us part.

I, insert Bride’s name, take you insert Groom’s name, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, to let you watch your favorite football games without me complaining, to limit my shoe purchases to 8 a year (ok maybe 5), to not roll my eyes at you when you talk about fishing and to love and to cherish you; from this day forward until death do us part.”

Did we miss a cool idea? Did you write your own vows? Tell us about it in the comments! We love hearing from our brides!
