Where did you meet your fiancée?

Jacob and I met in downtown Syracuse NY. We both grew up there and were home for part of the summer in 2016. I had gone out with some friends and Jacob and one of his buddies saw us standing by the door of this little place called Al’s. My girlfriend Danielle and I were waiting for our friend Jonathan who was closing his tab with the bar. Jacob came over and immediately I thought he was so handsome the word I probably used was “hunky”… He then asked, “What are you ladies doing by the door, waiting for your friend Jonathan?” Danielle and I both rolled our eyes, laughed, and said yes. We assumed he met our outgoing funny friend Jonathan at the bar. We parted ways after a friendly conversation only to find ourselves both closing out the night at this little hole in the wall Irish pub. Jacob and his buddies walked in and Danielle waved them over. The first thing Jacob did when he walked over to the table was introduce himself to the man sitting on my right side. When Jonathan introduced himself Jacob laughed and I said, “Wait I thought you guys already knew each other?” Jacob laughed again and said, “No I just made up a name and I thought you guys just went with it.” We talked for about an hour that night and he invited me for coffee the next day. Everything after that is history.

How did you know he was the one for you?

When Jacob and I started dating he was in the Navy. I was going into my senior year of college. Our schedules were both very busy, yet we talked every day and it was always quality over quantity. I trusted Jacob in a way that left me feeling safe. Even with unknown distances between us he always made sure that I knew I was a priority in his life. If I could pinpoint one moment where I knew he was the one for me it would have to be that first summer. He invited me to join him and his family in Cape Cod for a long weekend. We had only been talking for about two months and I really didn’t know his family. It was so unlike me, but I had to go. I fell in love with not only him that long weekend but his family as well. After that, I knew he was the one.

What are the things you have in common?

We enjoy a lot of the same things. Family is so important to both of us. Traveling-we backpacked Southeast Asia together. Staying active and eating healthy. Also, we both love having new experiences together, we have fun doing anything together.

How did he propose?

On the 4th of July at my parent’s house in Fort Myers FL, Jacob proposed in front of both our parents on the back porch with fireworks going off in the background. It was a total surprise to me!

What part of the wedding day are you looking forward to most?

We were supposed to get married on July 18th, 2020, however, due to COVID-19 we have to postpone. Most of our guests are out of town and the safety of our family and friends is what is most important. Our new date is July 17th, 2021, and I’m so excited to see everyone and be able to celebrate Jacob and I’s new adventure together.

What inspired your wedding colors?

Our colors are red, white, and blue! Jacob proposed on the 4th of July and we are both true patriots! It was important for us to stay true to ourselves throughout the wedding planning process and I think our colors reflect just that.

Thanks, Jessie and Jacob! It was great to chat with you.
