Vendor Spotlight: Our DJ Rocks

We love doing all we can to make every event a success, and with every event, we get a chance to work with some wonderful vendors. This time, we got to chat with one of our favorites and get the scoop on everything to do with Our DJ Rocks. We know you’ll love getting to know Kristin Wilson and Our DJ Rocks as much as we did!

Kristin, how did you get your start in the event business?
I laugh at this question every time, because it’s SOOOO untraditional… my ex boyfriend! He was a DJ from NY who moved down to Florida and wanted to keep DJing down here. The company that he got hired at put him through a training class. I would go with him at his training class, sit in the corner and do my college homework! By the end of the training, I was thinking… well I can do that. So I asked the owner of the company if girls could DJ. And he said “with that personality, yes! Want me to teach you?” Almost 12 years later… here I am.

What do you love most about being in the event/wedding business?
That I get to create moments that will be remembered and create laughter forever! Some of my favorite moments of a wedding are the room reveal when they see the room for the very first time, the first dance (I see the connection they have in their eyes when they look at each other) and the father daughter dance (because I can see my husband and step daughter dancing like that in 20 years from now).

If a bride is considering a theme to their wedding, what is your best recommendation for incorporating a theme?
Keep it simple.

What approach do you advise in order for it to be tasteful and yield an amazing looking event?
Have an overall vision and make your details ones that are close to your heart. Not every single thing needs to be themed or detailed. I always love when the room gives you a feeling and then you look at the details and you can tell there was time and thought put into them.

When people inquire about your services, what can they expect?
A packed dance floor and sore feet! We are just as worried as our couples that nobody will dance. It’s our biggest fear! That’s why we are VERY detailed in our online planning system to find out what you like and what you don’t like. We can gauge the temperature in the room and at any given moment, make things happen!

What is your best advice to avoid planning stress for any special event?
Hire a wedding planner!
