From College Dorms to Wedding Bells: Celebrating Kelli and Jake’s Love Story

Their journey began back in 2018 at Florida State University, where they lived just a few floors apart in the same residence hall. After spending a full year building a close friendship, their relationship naturally grew into something much deeper. Rather than one specific “aha” moment, Kelli shares that their love simply expanded over time in the quiet moments they spent together. From their regular Friday movie nights to a snowy, surprise proposal during a winter trip to Colorado, every step of their story has brought them to this exciting milestone.
Where did you meet your fiancée?
We met at Florida State University in 2018 in Dorman Hall. Jake lived on the 6th floor, and I lived on the 2nd floor.
How did you know they were the one for you?
Jake and I were good friends for a year before beginning our relationship. I don’t think there was one specific moment that I knew he was the one; rather, as time went on and we grew closer, it was in the moments in between that our love grew. Every moment we spent together filled our hearts in ways we didn’t know was possible.
What are the things you have in common?
We love to watch movies and dedicate every Friday night as our “Friday movie night”. We also love spending quality time with our family and friends. Finally, we love taking walks, grabbing coffee from a local coffee shop, and trying different restaurants together. I also can’t forget spending time with our cat, Marcie!
How did they propose?
Jake proposed to me in January 2025 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was a group trip with our friends, so I had no clue he was planning on doing it then. Jake’s original plan was to take me to Garden of the Gods, a park we both love, but the weather was not on our side and there was an Arctic blast that weekend. Jake pivoted and found a park nearby to take me to. Once we got back to the house we were staying in, Jake asked me to take a walk. We began walking around and he took me to the park and proposed. The best part was, as he proposed, it began snowing. It was the first time I had ever seen snow fall! Truly the most magical moment!
What part of the wedding day are you looking forward to most?
We are looking forward to spending our wedding with the family and friends we love the absolute most in this world.
What inspired your wedding colors?
Our wedding colors of sage green, blush pink, and hints of peach and blue were inspired to complement the colors of the James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art. We wanted the colors to look like they belonged in the canyons out in the west, much like the art the museum collects.
