The Break-Down on Wedding Insurance: What it Is, and Why You Need It
You protect your apartment, home and car, so why not your wedding? As you’re booking your venue and vendors, consider purchasing wedding insurance as well. It might save you some heartache in the long run!
So, when it comes to wedding insurance, here’s what you need to know:
When to buy it
As soon as possible! Preferably at the same time you book your other vendors and venue. At a bare minimum, choose your insurance 30 days before the big day so you can be sure you are covered in case your venue asks for proof of insurance.
What Wedding Insurance Will Cover
- Issues with the venue. Sometimes, venues have their own insurance, so confirm that before you purchase insurance. If something happens to the venue, such as going out of business or extreme damages, you will be covered for your deposit. That certainly would take some stress off of finding a new venue!
- Postponement due to extreme weather. As Floridians, we all know to have a backup plan in case of a hurricane! Generally, your wedding insurance will help you recover the cost of your deposits when the bride, groom, of the majority of the guests are unable to make it to the event because of weather conditions. The insurance will cover rescheduling the wedding, food, and floral.
- Vendor issues. Did your florist suddenly stop responding to your messages and close up shop? Did the officiant or caterer just not show up the day of the wedding? These issues are stressful to deal with as it is, and even more so when you’re paying top dollar for a last-minute replacement. Wedding insurance will cover those losses, so you can rest easy.
- Attire. Did the bride, groom, or member of the wedding party have an issue with dress damage or lost/stolen outfits? Most wedding insurance providers will cover this kind of situation.
- Illness. Did a guest get severe food poisoning at the wedding? Your wedding insurance will help pay the cost for wedding-induced healthcare concerns.
What Your Insurance Might Cover – Depending on the One You Choose
- Is the bride or groom a member of the military? Your wedding insurance may cover the expenses incurred by postponing the wedding when the bride or groom is deployed sooner than expected.
- Loss/theft of wedding rings and/or jewelry.
- Payment of expenses incurred due to injury during the wedding.
- Professional counseling
- Change of heart coverage (offered only by certain insurers!)
